When Giles started working with Spark Energy, there were only four members of staff.

Spark Energy is a gas and electricity supplier, specialising in tenanted properties. Their business model was to acquire customers by approaching property letting agents and management companies, offering to take the hassle out of utilities management for them, whilst paying them commission for every property Spark Energy supplied.

Giles was responsible for the marketing literature aimed at these letting agents, including designing presentations to the major players.

He was also responsible for creating the customer relationship marketing material – from welcoming customers on board, to encouraging them to pay by Direct Debit and switch to smart metering, to rewarding them with free cinema tickets.

Other projects included creating internal communications and marketing materials to attract investors.

Giles tweaked the brand identity and created a new campaign focussing much more on the improved customer services.

After five years working together, Spark Energy moved on to a larger agency for the next stage of their expansion. By the end of the relationship with Giles, Spark Energy had over 70,000 customers, a turnover of over £40m and employed over 200 staff. They were one of the fastest growing companies in the UK.
