Brand Satellite is a multi-award-winning brand consultancy, based in Melrose in the Scottish Borders, with clients across Scotland, the UK and Europe.

We help small businesses with little or no in-house brand and marketing expertise with all aspects of brand creation, branding and brand communications, including advertising, design, websites, marketing and social media.

BIG BRAND EXPERIENCE

Brand Satellite was founded in 2013 by me, Giles Etherington.

I have over thirty years’ experience, much of which has been with some of the world’s biggest and best advertising agencies in London, San Francisco and Amsterdam, working with many famous brands including Andrex, BT, Esso, Heineken, Kellogg’s, Nestle and Volvo to name but a few.

Today, I apply my knowledge of the principles and importance of brand creation and branding to help small businesses and entrepreneurs who have either never approached their business as a brand before or are not making the most of the brand they have.

So, what is Brand Satellite’s brand?

I spend a lot of my time trying to encourage small businesses to create a brand before attempting to communicate with their target audience.

Creating a brand will give you the confidence you are communicating the right messages to the right people – making your business more relevant to your ideal clients during the decision-making process.

But what is the point of getting my clients to do that, if I haven’t created my own brand?

Brand Satellite’s brand is: I help small business owners feel two inches taller about their business.

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME

I was recently asked why Brand Satellite is called Brand Satellite.

Criteria 1, and most importantly, I wanted a name with the word ‘brand’ in it. As a business’ brand is what I help businesses with. Creating their brand, developing their brand and communicating their brand.

It needed to be the word ‘brand’, rather than ‘branding’ or ‘design’, as the first stage of creating a successful brand doesn’t involve any branding or design. This is where Brand Satellite is different from most branding and graphic designers.

Criteria 2, I needed a name that no one else was using and I could get the right domain names for – .com and .co.uk.

After many brain-storming, mind-mapping and research sessions, Brand Satellite soon became the only serious contender.

It not only fitted both criteria, but it also began to explain what I do.

I see Brand Satellite as a satellite, orbiting each client and helping them with all aspects of their brand. I am never far away to give help and advice.

Being a satellite, I can look at the business from an external point of view. Far too often businesses and business owners are too involved with the day-to-day running of the business to look at it from another perspective. This is summed up brilliantly by a quote I heard recently: “When you are inside the jar, you can’t read the label.”

As a satellite, I have a ‘bigger picture’ strategic perspective of your business and your brand. And, as a satellite, I can also hone in on a very specific detail.
